Ping is the social network released by Apple, announced on September 1st . It is out and you don't even have to download anything to start using it. On your iDevice, you can open up the iTunes app and it will be in there at the bottom. With Ping, your followers can see what music you're buy, movies you're rent, and more. You can comment on peoples purchases as well as "liking" them. I really wish there was commenting in general and status updates, but oh well. We'll see how this one goes for Apple.

AndroidLock Android Lockscreen For iPhone |

This is a cool way for you to protect your phone and also to remind you, your device can do it too. With AndroidLock you have 9 points on your lockscreen where you will have to connect the dots in a pattern of your choosing to unlock your iDevice. Numerous patterns are possible with this tweak, you can set your pattern as many different times as you wish. Personally, I like this because it keeps my phone safe, as well as making it easier to have a pass code instead of numbers. AndroidLock is free in Cydia.

New Motorola Ad Ridicules the iPhone's Lack of Flash |
Sep 03, 2010 - 2:27 PM - by Maura
Motorola has taken another massive swing at Apple via a full page DROID 2 advert in the New York Times. Mobile Crunch reports today that the ad's heading - "Flash Websites? There's A Phone For That" - is an obvious dig at the iPhone's lack of Flash. As Mobile Crunch points out, this is actually the third advert that Motorola has run attacking Apple, with two previous full page adverts for the DROID X making fun of the iPhone 4's antenna woes.
While these ads are really just a bit of a laugh (an expensive laugh for Motorola though), it's possible that Motorola may have hit a nerve with iPhone users who get frustrated by the lack of Flash on their handset, and it can certainly be a bit annoying when you click on a video link only to find that you can't view the video because it uses Flash. However, does that momentary feeling of frustration make you want to replace your iPhone with a Motorola DROID, or does it merely make you wish more websites would use HTML5?

iOS 4-Enhanced Update for Shazam |
Sep 03, 2010 - 1:46 PM - by Maura
Mobile discovery provider Shazam has today announced "significant" feature updates for its iPhone/iPod touch app, many of which take advantage of iPhone 4 and iOS 4 capabilities. The addition of support for the multitasking iOS 4 feature enables the Shazam app user to now quit the app and use another function on their iPhone, such as take a call, and then return to where they left off in the app when ready to do so.
All icons and imagery in the app are also now much brighter and clearer in order to take full advantage of the iPhone 4's Retina Display. Other new features in the update include the ability to customise settings, such as "tagging on start-up"; an enhanced video experience, delivering multiple YouTube videos per tag; improved artist information including track and album reviews, artist biogs and discographies; a new "Discover" tab to access Shazam Tag Charts; shortcut icons; and a one-tap search facility for ringtones and videos on iTunes.
“This is a major enhancement for our customers,” said Andrew Fisher, CEO of Shazam. “Whether it is Shazam’s free, premium or (RED) version, we have made a significant investment to provide the most intuitive, interactive and immersive discovery experience yet. 20 million music lovers are already using Shazam on the iPhone and iPod touch and we’re confident that our new design and feature update will encourage more discovery, sharing and buying of music than ever before.”
The new features are compatible with all Shazam iPhone and iPod touch versions. The free Shazam iPhone/iPod touch app can be downloaded here, and the two premium versions, Shazam Encore and (SHAZAM) RED, can be downloaded for £2.99/$4.99 each by clicking on their respective links.

Office Heroes Gets Friend Codes and Push Notifications Update |
Sep 03, 2010 - 1:06 PM - by Maura
Astro Ape's hit free iPhone/iPod touch game Office Heroes has this week received two major updates, introducing push notifications and friend codes. With the new push notifications service, players will get an alert every time they complete an in-game task, which Astro Ape says will come in very handy during the more lengthy tasks in the game. The new friend code facility enables players to invite friends without having to use Facebook, which previously was the only way to add and interact with friends, and absolutely no good to you at all if you're not on Facebook. Now all you have to do to invite a friend is send them a code so that they can come and visit you in your office.
Since its launch this July, Office Heroes has attracted more than 300,000 users. The object of the game is to climb the ranks by completing timed office tasks, such as making coffee, clearing spam, and checking faxes, with the aim of earning career points and Paperclips, the in-office currency that helps you decorate your office and blaze a swanky trail through the corporate world. Here's Astro Ape co-founder William Fong talking about the game:
“We’ve seen how many people out there love Office Heroes, so we wanted to make everyone’s gaming experience that much more meaningful. With the update for push notifications and friend codes, everyone and their mother can play this game - literally!”
You can download Office Heroes for free here if you don't already have it.

T-Mobile losing exclusivity in the Eurozone |

If you've been living in Europe and you didn't want to sign up with T-Mobile but you wanted some iPhone 4 goodness... well we've got some nice news for you. Looks like T-Mobile has lost their exclusive contract with Apple and now the phone is available on both O2 and Vodafone.
More choice is always a good thing, especially when it comes to network and cellular coverage where one network may have your home and frequently traveled routes covered and the other network does not.
This was broken by Wallstreet Journal so we think this ones pretty solid.

Ping's Disappearing Facebook Mystery |
Sep 02, 2010 - 4:18 PM - by Maura
CNET's Crave blog asks the question today, where did Ping's Facebook support disappear to? It would seem that the Facebook feature has mysteriously disappeared from iTunes' new Ping social networking feature, which Apple launched yesterday. According to Crave, when Ping was demoed to the press at yesterday's Apple media event, the screenshots clearly showed a Facebook feature, which did not appear to be there when people started using Ping today. As Crave says, having the facility to connect with friends via Facebook would greatly enhance the Ping experience, as the user would then be able to import Facebook friends as well as export Ping activity. Crave also notes Ping's lack of a Twitter connect facility.
Crave and many other websites and blogs have scratched their collective heads to come up with an explanation as to just exactly what did happen with Facebook and Ping. Apple CEO Steve Jobs apparently told All Things Digital that Apple had been negotiating with Facebook about Ping, but the two companies failed to come to an agreement regarding any sort of partnership, and they quote him as saying that Facebook demanded "onerous terms that we could not agree to."
Curiouser and curiouser!
